A lot of thought went into the building up of his new colony… although he didn’t go looking far from home. Who could he better have visited than the ‘figurehead’ of the area, just a stone’s throw away from his house… namely ‘Jan Grondelaers’ from Opglabbeek. Later there came a waft of Schellens and Herbots… but the ‘big fish’ was caught when at the beginning of the 80’s he stood on the doorstep of Pros Roosen to obtain reinforcements. At the time Pros raced half of Limburg to the ground in the Sprint and Middle Distance with his legendary ‘Jos Soontjens’-
pigeons… the World famous pigeons ‘Computer I’, ‘Computer II’… later transferred themselves into new ‘top cracks’ so as the ‘Orleans’, the ‘Olympiad’, the ‘Computer II Junior’ and of course not forgetting the illustrious ‘Nationaal’… were at the starting line of the ‘dominance’ that the Pros Roosen-pigeons showed at the time, and which brought this colony ‘world fame’. This fact hadn’t escaped the notice of Rik Custers… so he left towards Holrakker in Kermt, where he not only obtained the very best breeding and racing material, but also got to know ‘a friend for life’. Rik and Pros not only became the best of friends… through the ‘input’ of the renowned ‘Soontjens pigeons’ from Pros, the Custers-colony performed a step higher, they demanded a leading role in the region… to then year after year profile at the top of Limburg from Sprint to Middle Distance.
Rik has always been a man for the game with the ‘old birds’… youngsters are well trained, but not with the aim of racing. The ‘classic widowhood’ with old birds is and remains the chosen work area for Rik Custers, and this both in Sprint as in Middle Distance… and no doubt there will later be the first ‘test balloons’ launched for the ‘extreme middle distance’. For this there are 20 old birds and 30 yearlings ready for 2010… this in addition to 22 breeding couples. Amongst them of course, several descendants of the ‘Computer II’-line, 6 children from the ‘Nationaal’, and a son (brother ‘Blauwe Prins’) and daughter (half-sister ‘Blauwe Prins’) out the ‘Top breeder Freddy’ by Pros Roosen. Already we can briefly summarise that the present colony of Rik Custers is pre-eminently base don the ‘figurehead’, say… the ‘notice board’ of the colony, namely the wonder pigeon ‘SUPER 36 PROS’.
Figurehead ‘SUPER 36 PROS’
A real ‘topper’, a phenomenal ‘super crack’…. With in his pedigree a mix of famous Pros Roosen pigeons so as ‘Computer I’, the ‘Hond’, the ‘Late Tom’, the ‘Computer II’, the ‘Supercrack 327’… in short, the best of the best that Pros Roosen owned from his ‘Soontjens stock’! His family is namely no-one less than ‘THE 136’ 136/95… coming self out ‘Brother Computer I’ 645/87 (son of the famous ‘Late Tom 080/80’ from Jos Soontjens) x ‘Sister Magic Star 530/94’ (son of the ‘Hond 010/89’ who was a son of ‘Computer II’… x ‘Carinne’ 001/90’, daughter out the old stock mother). Mother of the ‘Super 36 Pros’ is a ‘Daughter Computer II’ 143/91 (out the 13 x 1° prize winner, and 1°-2°-6° Prov Ace pigeon: ‘Computer II’ 876/85 x ‘Schilderij 401/83’, daughter of the ‘Super crack 327’). A lineage to make you lick your fingers… and they discovered this there in the north of the province Limburg.
The ‘SUPER 36 PROS’ ring 98-5166336 won during his career no less than 10 x 1° Prizes, and later grew in the breeding loft into a giant of a ‘stock breeder’. The following stunt work is included in his honours list:

So as we stated earlier, Rik wants to take things further in the future and the introduction of the success line ‘Top breeder Freddy’ will certainly help. Chaps that are obviously ready to defend the honour of the Henri Custers colony in the ‘extreme middle distance’ to the small long distance… to defend their name and fame with everything they’ve got. Qualities that are typical of the ‘Pros Roosen-pigeons’, pigeons that can compete with the best in all areas, that each time join in the fight for the victory and the celebration flowers. It is no different in the lofts of ‘Rik’ Custers… how could it be? It has been proved by the beautiful title win that Rik set down at ‘national level’. Champion titles which are always a perfect reflection on his performance curve of his colony over an ‘entire season’! Whoever has been allowed to stand on the ‘national podium’ in Oostende for the last 2 years in a row, can safely claim to belong to the ‘greatest ‘ colonies of our country in his chosen discipline. Figures that speak volumes, and are perfect proof of the enormous ‘class’ and exceptional ‘quality’ that resides there in Meeuwen in the lofts of Rik Custers.
‘It’s nice being champion…’ it’s like music to the ears… yet, in order to belong to the ‘top’ at ‘national level’ terrific performances have to be laid down every week, the first nominated has to qualify in the ‘fine top’ of the competition happenings week after week, one has to be able to stand up to the ‘weekly performance pressure’… because, the slightest mistake during the season can be fatal. And it seems that both the man at the rudder Rik Custers, and his pigeons… don’t seem to have been troubled by any of this… with the above mentioned splendid title win as ‘end result’! The combination Rik Custers and ‘Pros Roosen-pigeons’ is already more than a successful marriage… no-one can avoid it! Not only in Limburg, but even at national level! The Rik Custers colony is not for nothing described as the noble ‘branch’ Pros Roosen! And Pros… he quietly enjoys the successes that his bosom friend has achieved with his sort! Together at the ‘top’… each in their own loft, in their own discipline… but with the so-called same pigeons! The pigeon sport can be so beautiful!
